“The world needs glamour, and I missed couture”
- Donatella Versace
In times of economic decline, one might question the necessity of creating haute couture. However, according to Vogue, design houses such as Valentino, Giorgio Armani Privé and Givenchy have each experienced a striking increase in their couture sales in 2012 alone.
It appears, that in times of financial difficulty, consumers seek to spend their currency on exquisitely designed and refined pieces.

Under the reign of Donatella Versace, the House of Versace, have experienced overwhelming recognition in the previous number of months, due to their collaboration with Swedish retailer H&M.
Perhaps, this is the primary reason for the company choosing to dissolve their eight year hiatus from the realm of couture.
Versace is synonymous with accentuating a woman’s hourglass figure through strict, corseted pieces that are often embellished with studs and metal inserts. Today’s collection did not, in any way, disappoint the Italian label’s legion of fans.

Karlie Kloss opened the presentation in an exceptionally structured piece with inserts of Chantilly lace.
The presentation also exhibited the unrivaled posture and grace of beauties such as Arizona Muse, Daria Strokous and Lindsay Wixson.

The presentation catered as an insight into many of the gowns and pieces which will parade down the red carpet, particularly at the oncoming Academy Awards. I envisage Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Diane Kruger and Angelina Jolie exhibiting looks from this collection, in the very near future.
The armour, warrior-like construction of this creation completely enamoured me. I am eagerly anticipating its arrival at various promotional events and awards ceremonies this season.
“Haute couture consists of secrets whispered from generation to generation, … If, in ready-to-wear, a garment is manufactured according to standard sizes, the haute couture garment adapts to any imperfection in order to eliminate it.”

I love the Versace style and love those designs ! Even tho I didn’t like everything in the Versace for H&M collection !
I agree with you Vale, I would never have described myself as a die-hard fan of Versace, more an admirer. Although I did love some elements of the Versace for H&M collaboration, I too didn’t like it all. However, the brand’s embracing of haute couture once more has completely enamoured me, I cannot wait to see this collection ‘in the flesh’.
