Happy New Year!

This year will host a mélange of exhibitions, events and occasions which will tickle one’s fashionable taste-buds.

With the extraordinary success of the Met’s ‘Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty‘ exhibition, many other designers and icons have collated their collections and assembled their archives for display in 2012.

These include; Marc Jacobs, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Louboutin and Elsa Schiaperelli/Miuccia Prada‘s summer collaboration.

With Awards season commencing in the coming week and Paris’ Spring Haute Couture parading down catwalks at the end of the month, it is fair to say that two-o-one-two will be a year to remember.

Agyness Deyn & James Franco for Elle Magazine

15 Jun

In the past twelve months James Franco has added the credentials of director, university student, Academy Awards host and Oscar nominee to his curriculum vitae.

With the release of this month’s issue of Elle Magazine, Franco is featured as the photographer for its James Dean inspired shoot. Interestingly, the series of photographs feature females Agyness Deyn, Imogen Poots and Natalia Bonifacci in role as the cultural icon.

Agyness Deyn as James Dean by James Franco

The photographer is no novice to the subject of James Dean. In 2001, Franco was awarded a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Dean in a biopic.

The images are an excellent accompaniment to Franco’s latest project, an examination of James Dean’s film ‘Rebel Without A Cause’. James Franco is also analysing the impact this film had on American and popular culture.

The magazine feature, aptly named ‘Chateau Dreams’, was shot at the luxurious Chateau Marmont Hotel on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. The choice of location was no accident, as Chateau Marmont was where famed director Nicholas Ray lived during the making of the aforementioned ‘Rebel Without A Cause’.

It seems this role of photographer for James Franco, is to be further developed within Elle. The magazine’s creative director Joe Dee, has stated that they are in talks to collaborate with Franco again.

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall…

The 83rd Academy Awards highlighted the creations from London, New York and Paris Fashion Weeks.

From Anne Hathaway’s seven costume changes (who can forget her Lanvin tuxedo) to Mila Kunis’ Ellie Saab couture appearance at the Vanity Fair after-party, the Oscar’s Best Dressed was a tough decision.

The Kodak Theatre was wowed by Cate Blanchett and her Haute Couture Givenchy lavender gown with yellow highlights. Straight from the catwalk Blanchett was Hollywood glamour defined.
